TPG: two trams collide at Rive

An accident between two trams disrupted Transports publics genevois (TPG) traffic this Saturday morning in Rive, approximately between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. There were no injuries, apart from a passenger who had a scratch. due to broken glass and a driver bandaged the wound on the spot.

What happened? The historic green tram of the Geneva Association of Tram Museums was traveling towards Moillesulaz in the Rue Basses and parked in front of the TPG agency. To do this, the switch was diverted manually. An employee then came down to reset the switch, but before being able to do so, a tram which was taking the same route apparently did not observe the stop which it was nevertheless important to respect in view of the “detour” sign. He therefore deviated and brushed against another tram coming in the opposite direction, the one that the employee had just let pass before crossing the track.

“It’s a combination of circumstances. There was no frontal collision,” comments François Mutter, TPG spokesperson. The incident did not cause any disruption to private traffic, according to him. Replacement buses have been put in place to provide the journey between Moillesulaz and Rive. Around 11:30 a.m., on site, there was still a lot of broken glass along the rails, while employees removed the tape securing the perimeter.
