A direct red card for obstruction: this is what Georges Mikautadze received this Saturday during Metz’s defeat in Rennes (3-2). An arbitration decision which is controversial as it seems harsh in view of the images, while a disputed penalty had already been awarded to the Bretons earlier in the game.
At the very end of the match, Mikautadze slightly hooked Arnaud Kalimuendo. The referee of the match then brandished the red one, before the intervention of the VAR. Faced with images which show quite clearly that the Metz striker made a simple screen against his opponent, the referee decided… to confirm his decision. Enough to enrage Metz and in particular its coach László Bölöni, while the club is fighting to maintain itself.
