D2: Lyon roars against Strasbourg

At the opening of the 2nd day of Arkema Premier League, the title holders won Friday evening against the promoted (6-0). Continuation of meetings on Saturday then Sunday.

A week after kicking off its season, the Arkema Premier League wrote the first lines of its second chapter. Olympique Lyonnais met their home crowd at the Gérard-Houllier stadium this Friday, September 27.

Facing RC Strasbourg, the French Champions, victorious at Fleury in the opening (6-2), delivered a solid performance and achieved a great success (6-0). Racing coach Vincent Nogueira was not wrong in describing this match as « sacred challenge ». If Laurine Hannequin’s teammates were not unworthy, showing solidarity, the Rhodaniennes exploited the slightest space and, above all, made their talent shine.

OL alone takes the lead in the ranking while waiting for the other matches of the 2nd day which will be followed on Saturday then Sunday on the antennas of FFFtv and Canal+ Foot as well as the FFF.FR live scores.

THE MATCH

Completely in control and moving forward, immediately made its intentions clear. Strasbourg, with its five-man defense, tried to resist displaying a compact block, happy to see Lindsey Horan’s volley fly above her goal (9th) but who gave in to Danielle van de Donk taking a shot from Tabitha Chawinga diverted by Manon Whal (1-0, 17th). The Racing goalkeeper then repelled an attempt from Melchie Dumornay (28th). She could do nothing, however, on this ball from Ellie Carpenter placed on Horan’s head at the far post (2-0, 38th) nor on the curling shot from Kadidiatou Diani which finished under the bar (3-0, 45th) .

The Jewels of Chawinga

Three goals scored in twenty-eight minutes during the first period marked a victory which gained momentum after returning from the locker room thanks in particular to Chawinga, who unlocked his counter in his new colors by signing a jewel: sequence control of the right turning around – powerful strike from the left (4-0, 52nd). With a dive from the right, Dumornay scored Lyon’s fifth goal (59th) and Horan scored twice from a free kick in added time (90th + 3).
