Servette aims for its 20th Cup final

The second semi-final of the Swiss Cup will pit FC Winterthur and Servette FC against each other on Sunday from 4:30 p.m.

As at Tourbillon for the Sion-Lugano scheduled for Saturday, the atmosphere promises to be beautiful in a stadium which will be full as an egg.

In search of a title and a Cup final since 2001, the Garnet face an opponent whom they have still not beaten this season in three meetings. ‘Winterthur is a team that knows how to keep its back. Perfectly welded. Aware of her strengths and weaknesses, underlined Garnet captain Jérémy Frick on Friday at a press conference. We are going to experience difficult times for sure.’

But the lost semi-finals in 2021 against St. Gallen and in 2023 against Lugano – two matches played in Geneva – the goalkeeper knows that the time has come to rediscover the exhilaration of a final. “We of course feel the expectations of our supporters,” he said. But I don’t see it as pressure, but rather as support.’

After four defeats in a row, Servette FC raised their heads last Saturday with a 1-0 victory against the Grasshoppers without fully reassuring themselves. Faced with the Zurich residents, the Garnets were far from demonstrating the expected mastery. They will absolutely have to raise the Schützenwiese cursor in the face of the biggest surprise in the Super .

“What Winterthur has accomplished this season is extraordinary,” notes coach René Weiler. But I think it’s time for us to beat them!’
