After silver and bronze medals among juniors, you won your first tricolor jersey. What feeling predominates?

I don’t really realize. The day couldn’t have gone better. It was time to get the gold. I had already won two titles on the track (scratch and keirin in 2022) but on the road, it has another value. The first thing I saw was my father crying. It’s really nice to see my parents and my family, who had made the trip, happy.

You spent almost the entire race at the front…

Six of us left. I was protected so I had to wait. But I saw some strong girls coming out and I didn’t want to be late. The circuit was selective so we finished with three for the sprint. On paper, I was the fastest. I still told myself that I must not miss or fall.

When did you realize that you were going to win?

Two laps from the finish, we had a lead of more than 2′, I didn’t see how it could come back.

In the time trial, I had really prepared myself to aim for the top 5, which was already ambitious. With this third place, the week was successful. It gave me confidence. I knew it would be an easier race than the ones I’m used to doing. Winning in the U23s reassures me about my form.

In a first season among the professionals, with Cofidis, where you have little chance…

It feels good to run for yourself. Usually, I ride for colleagues and I don’t always finish the races. The team hadn’t won until recently. Hannah Ludwig did it (on the Tour of the Basque Country), then Benjamin Thomas (on the Giro) and now my title. It’s an awesome week!
