Qualifying against Chelsea in 2015, “an incredible memory” for Matuidi

The former midfielder, now 37 years old, played 295 matches with the capital club, from 2011 to 2018. “It’s an incredible memory, arriving in overtime and still managing to come back after Hazard’s goal, 10 against 11, it was incredible, we put all our heart into it,” recalls Matuidi. “It was a special year, one of my best with Paris.”

“I hope it will be this year for the C1”

Asked about his regrets at never having been able to cherish the dream of clinching a C1 with PSG, the former French international (84 caps) wants to be philosophical. “We can always have regrets when we have not achieved the expected objectives. There was a time under Ancelotti, in 2012-2013, when we met the great Barça with Messi in the quarter-finals. It wasn’t easy, we didn’t lose in the two matches (2-2 in the first leg, 1-1 in the return) but we were still eliminated… But that said, I only keep good memories, They were good years.”

From now on, the young retiree wants to see his former club get its first star in C1. “I hope it will be this year. There is everything for PSG to finally lift this big-eared cup.”
