Ilias Akhomach has revealed that he declined several significant financial offers from Saudi Arabia this summer, with the aim of continuing his progression in Europe, more specifically with his Spanish club Villarreal.
According to Marca, Akhomach notably rejected an offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, which would have multiplied his current salary at Villarreal. His agent, Horacio Gaggioli, even stressed that he had never seen an offer as high as the one from Al Hilal to attract Akhomach.
Despite interest from English, Italian and German clubs, Akhomach chose to stay at Villarreal, as he explained: “I have very clear ideas. I left Barcelona to come here and succeed at Villarreal. I have received tempting offers, but my goal is to stay here and succeed with Villarreal.”
Regarding the strong competition within his team, Akhomach said: “Competition makes players and the team better. The presence of players like Baena, Yéremy or Pino is very positive. It makes it difficult for the coach, but it is a good thing for the team because it pushes us to give our best in every training session.”
The Atlas Lion also spoke about the next match against his former team, FC Barcelona. “It’s a special moment. I spent my whole childhood there and I have very good memories of it. Everything I’ve learned from the club is positive. It’s always difficult to play against Barcelona, but we have clear ideas, and we’ll do everything to try to win this match.”he added.
