The second evening of the first day of the Champions League delivered its verdict with victories for Borussia Dortmund and Celtic Glasgow. In the evening’s fixture, City and Inter neutralized each other.

We were bored for a long time in this second evening of the Champions League but the goals finally came and especially in Scotland where Celtic torpedoed Slovan Bratislava (5-1). The evening’s match between Manchester City and Inter Milan was rather disappointing (0-0) while Borussia Dortmund, finalist of the last edition, easily dismissed Club Bruges (3-0).

Manchester City – Inter Milan (0-0): a disappointing clash

It was the big game of the evening and we were clearly bored as Man. City came up against Inter Milan’s compact and organised block for 95 minutes. However, the first half was marked by two situations in Marcus Thuram’s favour but it was Kevin de Bruyne who had the best opportunity of the first act with a duel against Sommer, won by the Swiss goalkeeper.

The second half was a little better for the English but they were clumsy in front of goal, with Foden shooting at Sommer and Gundogan, at the end of the match, missing his header twice. Inter therefore leave with a very valuable point from Manchester and could have even pocketed the lead at the end with a shot from Lautaro Martinez, a substitute at kick-off, well stopped by Ederson. The two teams will now look ahead to the weekend’s fixtures with a clash against Arsenal for City and the Milan derby for Inter.

Celtic and Borussia Dortmund are at peace

Two other matches took place on Wednesday evening, in addition to PSG’s victory against Girona (1-0). Celtic Glasgow crushed Slovan Bratislava (5-1) in an exceptional atmosphere. Scales, Furuhashi, Engels, Maeda and Idah scored the Scottish goals while Wimmer, with a superb strike, reduced the score for the Slovaks.

In Belgium, Borussia Dortmund took a while to find the gap but the last finalist of the C1 managed it in the last quarter of an hour. Coming into play in the 68th, the Englishman Bynoe-Gittens offered himself a double before Guirassy closed the scoring from a penalty (3-0) for the Germans.

Finally, earlier in the day, Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk neutralized each other in Italy in torrential rain (0-0) while Sparta Prague had fun against RB Salzburg (3-0).
