The 2024-2025 Champions League season, which is taking place in a new 36-team format, began this Tuesday, September 17. Discover the complete standings of this Champions League.

The Champions League has officially entered a new era. For this 2024-2025 season, 36 teams are participating in the most prestigious club competition, compared to 32 in the previous format. The four-team groups have disappeared to make way for a single championship where each team faces eight different opponents (four at home, four away). This first phase is called the “league phase”.

This Tuesday, September 17, was the first French club to debut this brand new format. The Dogues, traveling to Lisbon, were soundly beaten by Sporting CP (2-0). At home, Kylian Mbappé’s Real Madrid avoided the trap set by an uninhibited Stuttgart team (3-1), while the clash between AC Milan and Liverpool ended with a fine victory for the Reds at San Siro (1-3).

But the evening’s success is to be put to the credit of Bayern Munich, who beat Dinamo Zagreb (9-2) by a wide margin thanks to a quadruple from their goalscorer Harry Kane.
