Olympic Games. Normandy “rear base” of Paris 2024: which delegations will be in Caen?

Normandy, the first welcoming land

The Normandy Region positioned itself in 2017 to become a “rear base” for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and selected 83 sports facilities capable of hosting national selections, 62 of which obtained the “games preparation center” label.

Around twenty international sports delegations have already chosen Normandy as a preparation site for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. But as Hervé Morin recalled in his speech, “discussions are underway to attract other delegations still looking for their training site, and it must be remembered that certain qualifying tournaments for the games have not yet taken place “. Currently, there are 22 delegations of 13 different nationalities including four French teams and 20 disciplines spread across Normandy. Ultimately, we should have around thirty teams coming to train in Normandy.

Five delegations have validated their presence in Caen. Canadian swimmers were the first to do so. They will benefit from the Eugène Maës Nautical Stadium (from July 13 to 22). There will also be the rowing and canoeing teams of the Refugee delegation (from July 15 to 18).

Aristide Olivier, deputy mayor in charge of sports in the city of Caen, also announced to us the presence of athletes from the Dominican Republic, at the Hélitas stadium, and Chinese volleyball players, who will use the facilities of the Palais des Sports.
