The winter transfer window is coming to an end, and AS Saint-Étienne has not yet recorded any movement, whether in the direction of arrivals or departures. However, with only 13 days remaining before closing on February 3the leaders of the Greens will take action to strengthen their team and optimize their chances of remaining in Ligue 1.
Three targeted reinforcements to fill the gaps
Since the opening of the transfer window, the objective of the Saint-Etienne leaders is to complete three reinforcements to adjust Eirik Horneland's squad. Hot leads include a possible return of Irvin Cardonathe Swedish left winger Inoussa Zeidane who is a hit this season, and the Senegalese central defender Sadibou Sané of FC Metz. In the middle, the names of Timothy Grandma et Noah Lebreton are also mentioned. Finally, the Serbian right side Fiery Mimovic of Red Star Belgrade would be close to joining ASSE for more than 6 million euros.
Departures determine arrivals
However, as is often the case, arrivals will depend on departures. With ten players at the end of their contract in June, ASSE could release part of its payroll. Items like Anthony Briançon, Florian Tardieu, Aïmen Moueffek and Mathieu Cafaro will not be selected and could pack their bags this winter. Ayman Aki could go on loan abroad, while Pierre Cornud could return to Maccabi Haifa. Thomas Monconduit will also be released if he finds a new challenge.
Building the future while aiming to maintain
With these movements, ASSE aims both to remain in Ligue 1 and to build the future of the club. The leaders seem to favor young and promising profiles, like Sané, Ouma or Mimovic. But they will not hesitate to call on experienced reinforcements, like the former Green Cardona, to bring offensive impact.
