FC Barcelona could consider the possibility of playing their La Liga match against Real Madrid outside Spain if work at the Camp Nou is not completed in time for May 11. Although the Camp Nou remains the first option, other solutions are necessarily being considered to host the Clasico at the end of the season, which could be important in the title race.
FC Barcelona has a very clear objective: to return to the Camp Nou pitch on May 11, the crucial date of the Clasico between Barca and Real Madrid in La Liga. Even though the club has extended its lease with Montjuïc, which hosts the Catalans' matches this season, the end date of the contract arrives in April, a month too early before the Clasico date. Because the concerts are starting and the Rolling Stones have declared that they want to start their tour in Barcelona. Except that at Camp Nou, the work is not finished…
Although Camp Nou remains the priority for Barca, the club is considering other options. If the work takes too long at Camp Nou and it is not possible to extend the contract with Montjuïc, the club has a plan B… As reported by Qué t'hi Jugues and Cadena SER, the club has developed various scenarios, one of which involves finding a large European stadium capable of hosting a match of this scale. For the moment, no proposal has been mentioned.
-A not so easy goal
But, it's not that simple. The club is working to allow, at least, 60% capacity to be reached at the Camp Nou for this match, which generates between 8 and 10 million euros in revenue. If this is not the case, it will be necessary to find a European stadium, attractive enough for both clubs and the supporters, similar to an atmosphere during a final, with a massive influx of Barcelona fans.
Another crucial point for this to be possible: the two clubs must agree and the Spanish football federation and the League must also agree. For the moment, Barça has not made any proposals either to the League or to Real Madrid, because no decision has yet been clearly made. The club continues to work hard to host the match at Camp Nou, while keeping a plan B in case of any setbacks. Currently, the Federation does not seem to have any objections, as Qué t'hi Jugues indicates.
