where will the French go in 2025?

The travel search engine, Kayak, has published a study on the trends for this year 2025, as well as the most interesting flights. RMC Conso takes stock.

Where will the French travel this year? Kayak, the world's first comparative travel search engine, published a study at the end of December on travel trends for the year 2025. It was based on searches for flights from French airports between June 1 and October 20. 2024, in comparison with the previous year.

“The data not only reveals the most popular destinations with French travelers, but also highlights where to find the best deals,” explains the site in a press release.

First observation: the French are already looking for their summer vacation and there are more of them than last year. “Flight searches for the summer are on the rise, increasing by 22% compared to the previous year for international destinations, and by 42% for destinations in France,” points out the site.

The most sought-after destinations for summer

And the star of the summer is the Far East. Denpasar (Indonesia), Tokyo (Japan) and Bangkok (Thailand) make up the top three traveler preferences, according to Kayak.

“Denpasar has long been a popular destination and its appeal continues to grow in 2025. The destination is becoming more affordable: flight prices have fallen by 7% compared to last year. Although flights are more expensive (currently 1,063 euros on average), travelers discover that their money is often much more valuable once there”, details the site with RMC Conso.

Next, Tokyo stands out with a 38% increase in searches and a 17% drop in prices through the summer, with an average round-trip economy class flight currently at 1,010 euros.

“Regarding Bangkok, it is a preferred destination for French travelers. There is a strong attraction for Asia, Thailand in particular. The destination is very regularly at the top of the rankings of the most sought-after destinations,” analyzes Kayak.

The United States is currently the most searched country for French travelers this summer, with an increase in searches of 27% on average. These include New York (627 euros on average, -10%) and Los Angeles (866 euros on average, -15%).

The French do not forget sunny destinations, such as Saint-Denis in Reunion, which accounts for +15% of searches, Papeete, in French Polynesia, +38% of searches and a 10% drop in flight prices, or even Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with +54% searches and an 8% drop in flight prices.

“Peaks of interest” in certain destinations

And certain cities are recording “peaks of interest” for this summer of 2025, notably Tirana, in Albania with +144% of searches. Round-trip flights from major European cities cost on average 181 euros, or 31% cheaper than in 2024.

“With its stunning Mediterranean beaches and mountainous hinterland, Albania is a destination for everyone. Tirana is a hidden gem on the rise. The city is rapidly evolving with new five-star hotels and resorts popping up coastal areas that meet the expectations of international travelers, while retaining its unique identity and welcoming character. Its well-developed public transport network also allows visitors to explore easily,” describes Kayak to RMC Conso.

In France, Ajaccio rises to second place with +121% of searches (257 euros on average) and Marseille in third place with +107% of searches (158 euros on average). These two destinations confirm that local holidays remain popular.

“Corsica remains a preferred destination for the summer and Marseille, this comes from the fact that it is a quick and inexpensive destination for French travelers, especially for those departing from Ile-de-France airports,” assures Kayak.

Abroad, destinations like Osaka (+72% of searches, 988 euros on average) and Lima (+49% of searches, 1,133 euros on average) attract travelers in search of exoticism. Marrakech (Morocco), Alicante (Spain) and even Sao Paulo (Brazil) are also suddenly attracting French vacationers.
