For Le Mag, the journalist Laurent Brun spoke about the importance of Andy Carroll to the Girondins de Bordeaux, like against Granville where everything went through him.

“We have said it from the start, since his arrival, there is a dependence, yes. The only thing is that compared to Locminé, in terms of commitment and desire, I found that it was better. There were some better sequences of play going forward, but it's also true that we couldn't have done worse. In desire, it was better. We saw players concerned. Afterwards, in the technical production, there are still many shortcomings, and indeed we are looking for Andy Carroll. But I enjoyed it every time he had the balls… His ability to put them on the ground straight away, to play at the right tempo, forward, or to score… The sequence on his goal, the control-pivot-volley is magnificent… 'Give the ball to Andy, he'll know what to do with it'. Yes, but be careful, because it’s really precarious, and it’s certain that the people of Bordeaux are dependent on it.”

Does it make it easier for the opposing defense to read the game?

“Yes, the defenders know it, but it didn’t work very well anyway (laughs). There are often two or even three takes on him, so afterwards, it can free up space. You still have to know how to exploit them… Of course he's expected, but he's a mover, and that doesn't scare him. He is capable of rezoning, of being far from the point of fall, of coming to defend and leaving very quickly to recover his attacking position. I think it's not easy for opposing defenders, even if only to follow him in his movements and movements. Afterwards, the more we advance in the season, the more we know him. Each opponent focuses on him but despite that, he still manages to find the fault. But he must not be injured or suspended. We must continue to take advantage of his qualities, but we really must find solutions alongside him because it is too fair… The excesses, the last gesture, the lack of lucidity…”.
