According to the Globo media, Botafogo players are complaining about a delay in payment of classic bonuses, but also of a bonus linked to their Copa Libertadores title. A strike could be called by footballers from John Textor’s Brazilian club.
Botafogo management has until January 14 to regularize the situation. Players from John Textor’s Brazilian club (Eagle Football) are threatening a strike due to unpaid bonuses and compensation, according to Globo media.
It would specifically be a question of delays for the 13th month, paid leave, but also a bonus linked to the Copa Libertadores coronation. The situation would not only concern the current players in the squad, but also players who have already left the team this winter at the end of the season concluded with a Libertadores-Championship double.
Botafogo promises to pay soon
All payments should have been made by December 30. But Botafogo would have announced a first postponement to January 7, before moving to January 17. This does not suit the first team players, who would be ready not to return to training until the promised sums have been paid. According to Globo, Botafogo will communicate on this subject soon. The club’s board of directors is said to have committed to paying the amounts owed during the week of January 13.
-Botafogo are preparing to experience an eventful winter after their historic end to the year, marked by obtaining the national title after the very first coronation in the club’s history in the Copa Libertadores. Several players are leaving, notably the Argentinian world champion Thiago Almada, expected imminently at Olympique Lyonnais, flagship of John Textor’s Eagle Football galaxy.
In the meantime, the competition is already resuming for Botafogo. But without the first team players, strike or no strike. The under-23 team was mobilized to compete in the start of the Rio State Championship, which serves as a pre-season before the return of the Brazilian D1 (Brasileirão).
