This Thursday, Viktoria Plzen awaits RSC Anderlecht firmly. The Czechs will have been able to count on the advice of certain Mauves experts, including within the current core.
Among the many illustrious Czech players who have passed through RSC Anderlecht (Jan Polak and Ondrej Mazuch, for example), there have also been some whose success has been more relative. One of them came from Viktoria Plzen, and was therefore interviewed by the local press: it is Jan Lecjaksstill active in Nea Salamis at the age of 34.
In 2010-2011, after good seasons with Viktoria, he was loaned to RSC Anderlecht, still playing 40 matches in the Mauve & Blanc jersey. “It was a dream come true for me to join such a big club. There were already three Czechs at the club, which made my integration easier,” recalls Lecjaks in the pages of the media Today.
Lecjaks and the mistake against Partizan
“Biglia played in the middle, Lukaku up front… it was a dream (…) I had playing time, I developed, I discovered the European Cup. I didn’t expect not play as much.” Lecjaks will have been part of the long list of left-backs who arrived at Sporting as competitors of Olivier Deschacht and he will gradually establish himself as a starter, notably playing the entire Playoffs.
But occasional errors and insufficient statistics did not convince Anderlecht to exercise the purchase option at the time. We particularly remember his very bad match against Partizan Belgrade, with a self-goal and fatal errors. “Silvio Proto jokingly reminded me for a long time of my own goal during this match,” admits Jan Lecjaks, a fine player.
-For the ex-Mauve, Anderlecht perhaps has an advantage against Viktoria but still faces a “very difficult” task: “It will be quite balanced because Viktoria has been excellent lately.”
An old teammate… David Hubert
And in the Viktoria Plzen 11 too, we find someone who knows Anderlecht well – or rather, who knows the coach, David Hubert, well. He too may have been a little forgotten by us: Vaclav Jemelka (29 years old) played a season in the Pro League, at OHL (2020-2021) and he worked alongside the RSCA coach there.
“Anderlecht which awaits us this Thursday is stronger than the one I knew when I was in Belgium”, estimates Jemelka, who did not lose against RSCA at the time since OHL had won (2- 2) then beat the Mauves (1-0). “David Hubert? I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that he was becoming the coach of such a big club, so young,” the Czech defender then admitted in the columns of Plzensky Denik.
“But he was already an intelligent midfielder who covered a lot of space, which the attackers appreciated (smile). “I hope to have the opportunity to talk to him a little. To him and to the physical trainer, whom I also know. He has even already written to me to get tickets for his friends,” laughs Vaclav Jemelka.
