Can you explain to us this choice of having signed for Valenciennes, resident of National?
As you know, I was lacking playing time, so I wanted to get some back. And the project proposed by the coach and the leaders convinced me. I’m really looking forward to playing here.
Who did you have contact with before signing?
The hiring manager contacted me. Then he contacted my agent too, and it happened pretty quickly. I had the coach on video, he explained to me how he wanted to play. I liked it, so I accepted directly. Last summer, I waited a little time before making my decision and in the end, I got stuck in Brest. So at the first opportunity, I quickly wanted to go play.
Last summer, did you also have the opportunity to sign on loan?
Yes, I had some opportunities. Recruitments were made late in Brest. But it was confirmed with sports director Greg Lorenzi. When I found a good project, he gave me the opportunity to go and play.
Have any Ligue 2 clubs come forward for information this winter? If not, are you frustrated?
Frustrated, no. The Valenciennes project convinced me. Perhaps I could have waited a little longer and played in Ligue 2 but what I really wanted was to play. Ligue 2, the National, that wasn’t what mattered to me. It was really the coach’s project.
You experienced the Champions League campaign with Brest where you were a spectator. What memories do you keep of it?
Only good memories. I think 13 points, no one would have said that at the start of the season. I really only wish them well. I also hope that they will continue like this. It’s true that it was a little frustrating not to play.
This is the first time you are leaving Finistère, are you dreading it?
No, it’s okay. And then it’s only four, five months. Afterwards, I am under contract at Brest until 2027, so I will definitely come back. I’m really happy to have a change of scenery too.
Ultimately, what are your goals with your training club?
I’m leaving for four months, I’ll come back and I will have two years of contract left. Obviously I want to win and play at Brest behind.
You have already completed a National loan at Concarneau (from February to May 2023), it is a championship that you know well.
Yes, it’s true that we went up with Concarneau. We finished champion. Now, I also arrive at a club, not in difficulty, but we hope to move up the rankings quickly. It’s a different context. I already know the championship. I hope to be successful soon.
What are your objectives with Valenciennes for the next six months?
Already: to play, and not to hurt myself. And then, we will play all the matches to win them.
