Antoine Kombouaré, clearly annoyed by journalists' speculation regarding his future at the head of FC Nantes, quickly ended the press conference held on Thursday before the resumption of Ligue 1 against Lille, scheduled for Saturday.

Visibly tense and moved, the technician spent less than three minutes facing the media. He delivered a long monologue before getting up and leaving the press room at the Jonelière training center.

“You wrote a lot of things, I didn’t take them into account because it was a difficult situation, for the club for me, it was therefore normal, given the results we had,” he said. he declared, referring to the first articles which suggested that he was in the hot seat after the defeat (0-2) against Le Havre at home, at the end of November.

At this time, the management of FC Nantes had started discussions with Sergio Conceição, former coach with the club. However, the latter declined the offer to join AC Milan, where he signed on December 30.

Subsequently, an agreement in principle was reached with Habib Beye. However, the difficulty for the latter to constitute a complete staff led the club to review its decision and to maintain its confidence in Antoine Kombouaré for the resumption of the championship.

After these weeks of speculation, Kombouaré expressed his anger towards the media, which he accused of having prematurely announced his departure as certain.

“I made a decision today, for you journalists to question yourselves, you are not going to agree but I don’t really care,” he began.

He unanimously criticized them for having affirmed that he would no longer be at the head of the team: “What bothers me is that you were all, all, unanimous, and above all categorical, on the fact that today I will no longer be the coach of FC Nantes.”

And to continue: “You messed up, and behind that, it can’t happen like that, without consequences.” He deplored the absence of any acknowledgment of their error: “I waited for a written mea culpa or a phone call, at least to apologize, at least to explain.”

Kombouaré also expressed his discomfort with the situation: “If I stay there, I tell you, I will be unpleasant, I will even be mean, but I don't want to be here today in this press conference.”

He concluded by announcing his immediate withdrawal: “So you are going to act as if I was not there […] I'll let you work, but I'll simply withdraw.” With these words, he got up and left the room.
