Perhaps a glimmer of hope after several years of descent into hell. Administratively demoted to National 2 this summer then placed in receivership, the Girondins de Bordeaux are riddled with debt and are looking for funds capable of getting the club back afloat.

And salvation could come from a totally unexpected duo. Indeed, according to revelations from Sud-Ouest, the former president of Olympique de Jacques-Henri Eyraud recently contacted Gérard Lopez in order to find out “about the conditions of a possible resumption”. Even more surprising, he would have done it in the name of Oliver Kahn, Germany's emblematic goalkeeper in the 2000s (86 caps).

Premier contact positif

The former goalkeeper, winner of the Champions League in 2001, wore the Bayern Munich jersey more than 700 times. After his retirement from sports, he even became executive president of the Bavarians for two years, until May 2023. Since then, he has not hesitated to display his intention to invest in a football club.

His sights would therefore have been set on the Girondins. Moreover, still according to Sud-Ouest, the first contact would have been positive and the German would continue to study the takeover file. Nothing more concrete at this stage. One thing remains certain: the current Bordeaux president Gérard Lopez is desperately looking for investors to save this endangered monument of French football, which will appear once again before the Bordeaux Commercial Court on January 21.
