Who will be the soldiers of the future coach?

As ASSE prepares to welcome a new coach at the head of its first team, the question of his integration and the speed of this arises. Several players could act as pillars for the future coach who should be Erick Horneland (Norway).

Among the plurality of explanations that can be found for Olivier Dall'Oglio's failure at the start of the season in Ligue 1, that of lack of experience in the League or that of lack of identity can be put forward. But is this squad really lacking in experienced players and seasoned Saint-Etienne players?

Bonus for experience in Ligue 1?

The current ASSE squad includes three players who have played more than 100 matches in Ligue 1. The oldest, Yunis Abdelhamid, has accumulated 230 Ligue 1 matches. Behind, Dennis Appiah has played 170, while Thomas Monconduit, who has not played since the start of the season, has played 147. Mathieu Cafaro is fast approaching the hundredth mark with 98 Ligue 1 matches on the clock.

Gautier Larsonneur (77), Anthony Briançon (71), Lamine Fomba (55) and Florian Tardieu (52) have exceeded the threshold of 50 matches in the elite of French football.

The Saint-Etienne players who have played the most matches in Ligue 1:

  1. Yunis Abdelhamid: 230 matches in Ligue 1
  2. Dennis Appiah : 170 matchs
  3. Thomas Monconduit: 147 matches
  4. Mathieu Cafaro: 98 matches
  5. Gautier Larsonneur: 77 matches
  6. Anthony Briançon: 71 matches
  7. Lamine Fomba: 55 matches
  8. Florian Tardieu: 52 matches
  9. Aïmen Moueffek: 44 matches
  10. Mickaël Nadé: 38 matches
  11. Léo Pétrot and Yvann Maçon: 34 matches

These 12 players had therefore experienced Ligue 1 before the start of this season, whether at ASSE (Moueffek, Nadé and Maçon) or in other clubs.

Or bonus for experience in Green?

But the future coach of ASSE is Eirik Horneland, he could decide, given his lack of knowledge of Ligue 1, of course, but also and above all of the club in which he could set his foot, and of his identity, to trust to players who know the Saint-Etienne club well.

In this game, the most experienced player with the Green jersey is undoubtedly Aïmen Moueffek, who reached the milestone of 100 matches with the ASSE pros during the return play-off in (he now has 111 matches with Sainté ). Behind him, another player trained at the club is right on his heels with 86 matches: Mickaël Nadé.

Mathieu Cafaro (83), Benjamin Bouchouari (81) and Léo Pétrot (80) are not far away, but only the last of these three was trained at the club.

The players who have played the most matches with the Green jersey:

  1. Aïmen Moueffek: 111 matches in Green
  2. Mickaël Nadé: 86 matches
  3. Mathieu Cafaro: 83 matches
  4. Benjamin Bouchouari: 81 matches
  5. Léo Pétrot: 80 matches
  6. Yvann Maçon: 73 matches
  7. Gautier Larsonneur: 72 matches
  8. Dennis Appiah : 69 matchs
  9. Anthony Briançon: 57 matches
  10. Lamine Fomba: 51 matches
  11. Thomas Monconduit: 50 matches
  12. Ibrahim Sissoko : 47 matches
  13. Ibrahima Wadji: 45 matches
  14. Dylan Batubinsika : 44 matches
  15. Florian Tardieu: 41 matches

In this ranking, there are ultimately few players trained at the club. To find this type of player after Léo Pétrot, you have to go down to Louis Mouton, 16th, with 27 matches in Green and Mathis Amougou, 17th, with 16 matches.

Ultimately, the perfect solution must surely be found in a mix between experienced Ligue 1 players, players used to wearing the Green tunic and young talents with potential (Amougou, Davitashvili, Ekwah, Stassin…).
