A few hours after the already exceptional performance of Saint-Brieuc which offered Le Havre (1-0) despite the three divisions difference, Le Puy struck even harder for these 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. Not only did the Auvergne club take out Montpellier, also leaving a Ligue 1 club at the door while Le Puy plays in National 2, but it is the scale of the score which is historic.
Four goals difference, unheard of!
Le Puy in fact gave the elite club a 4-0, putting together a performance that has simply never been seen before. In fact, a fourth division club has never beaten a Ligue 1 team with a four-goal margin! Sedan beat Nice 4-1 in 1950 and Rouen defeated Metz 3-0 in 2020. But never has such a large success existed in the yet legendary history of the competition. Amazing.
