Two FC Barcelona executives must extend their contract before the start of next season if they do not want to be placed on the transfer market.
Between youth and experience, FC Barcelona has a solid workforce. Despite the lack of funding to make major recruitments, Barça is having a very good start to the season. Second in the Champions League and leaders of the Spanish championshipl, the Catalans have been among the best since the start of the season. However, from the beginning, Barça had to deal with managerial injuries.
Injuries have often prevented Barça from being competitive for an entire season. On numerous occasions, important players on the squad have had to miss weeks of competition due to injuries. But now, these same players seem to be back to defend the Catalan colors under the orders of Hansi Flick. Indeed, Ronald Araujo is about to play his first minutes of the season. Moreover, De Jong makes his return after relapsing following his injury.
However, the future of both players seems uncertain. Both players’ contracts end in 2026 and Joan Laporta wants to extend them. But if they fail to sign their new contracts before the start of next season, FC Barcelona will place them on the transfer market.
Leave or stay, the choice in their hands
Frenkie De Jong and Ronald Araujo are two very important players of FC Barcelona. Much appreciated by Hansi Flickthe 27-year-old Dutchman is a key piece who can change the course of the game for Barça. However, his recent repeated injuries have allowed other young players to emerge and establish themselves as starters. As for Ronald Araujo, his return is eagerly awaited. Injured since the end of the season, his return will allow current defenders, Íñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsi, to rest.
Both players are being courted by many clubs, including Manchester United for De Jong and Bayern Munich for Araujo. Even though both have, on numerous occasions, proclaimed their love for FC Barcelona, their future in Catalonia is not yet certain.
