After working for a season under Marcelo Bielsa at OM, Dimitri Payet left the Marseille club immediately, in the summer of 2015, to join West Ham. And the playmaker admits that he was clearly incapable of continuing just one more year with the Argentine coach who imposed a program that was far too physical in his eyes.
It’s a fact, Marcelo Bielsa made an impression during his only season spent on the bench of theABOUT in 2014-2015. A season during which several individualities will be highlighted in its eleven-type, like André-Pierre Gignac, Giannelli Imbula or even Dimitri Payet. The playmaker was also transferred the following summer to West Ham for €15M, and for good reason, Payet did not want to continue at OM with Bielsa.
Payet no longer wanted to work with Bielsa
Asked by Marseille Football Club, Payet explains that his departure fromABOUT was inevitable in 2015: “ One more year with Bielsa? No, it’s hard. The week is too hard. Even he didn’t spend long in the clubs. It’s tiring to work like this every day because the sessions are long. We learn a lot, but honestly it’s very, very hard. He had succeeded in building us for that (the title) ».
