The start of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season could be postponed due to PSG's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, organized from June 15 to July 13 in the United States.
Only one Ligue 1 club has qualified for the 2025 edition of the new version of the FIFA Club World Cup, unsurprisingly it is Paris Saint-Germain. And yet, despite the presence of only one French club, this competition is likely to shake up the Ligue 1 calendar according to information from L'Equipe. Due to the end date of the Club World Cup on July 13, the LFP is considering postponing the start of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season.
Nothing has yet been defined and two options are currently on the table according to the website of the national daily. The first option would be to postpone the entire first day of Ligue 1 while the second possibility is to postpone only the meeting of Paris SG and its opponent. The subject will be on the table of the leaders of the Professional Football League and club presidents at the beginning of 2025 and a decision will be taken also taking into account the calendar of the Coupe de France and the World Cup selections in 2026.
