An argument reportedly broke out between Todibo and Lopetegui, the West Ham coach who faces losing his job due to a poor start to the season.
Julen Lopetegui's hours at the Hammers are numbered. The West Ham coach is more threatened than ever after the 3-1 setback suffered against Leicester on Tuesday December 3 (13th day of the Premier League). A result which locks the London club in 14th place with a very mediocre record of four wins, three draws and seven defeats. But in addition to failing on a purely sporting level, the Spanish technician finds himself in trouble in the management of his locker room.
According to the Daily Mail, a “heated” exchange broke out between Julen Lopetegui and Jean-Clair Todibo. It was at half-time of the 5-2 loss to Arsenal on November 30. The 24-year-old French defender – recruited this summer on loan with a compulsory purchase option of 40 million euros from OGC Nice – is said to have expressed his frustration, before it degenerated into an argument.
Despite the clash, Jean-Clair Todibo was able to go to the end of the match against the Gunners. However, he was not in the squad to face Leicester due to an adductor injury.
Three names already mentioned to replace Lopetegui
Still, this dispute could have an influence on the future of Julen Lopetegui, assures the Daily Mail which mentions Sérgio Conceição, Edin Terzic and Graham Potter as potential successors.
To make matters worse, the supporters are clearly not on the side of the former Spanish coach. “You will be fired tomorrow morning!” chanted the stands during the match against Leicester. The ax could fall in the event of a home defeat against Wolverhampton on Monday December 9.
