Despite disappointing results in the Champions League and increasing criticism, the PSG triumvirate of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi (president), Luis Campos (sports advisor) and Luis Enrique (coach) continues to stand together and publicly display its solidarity.
Under fire from criticism in recent days, Luis Enrique received strong support on Tuesday on the sidelines of the ECA congress in Budapest. “In my opinion, we have the best coach in the world at the moment. He is building a project for the future. Results count, but we remain focused on our project”Nasser Al-Khelaïfi told Sky Germany.
“We are building a team for the future with our great coach. We have a long-term plan with this team and this coach. Our players are united and it’s a fantastic group with a great atmosphere”added the president of PSG, without quoting Luis Campos or without it being transcribed.
Al-Khelaïfi comforts Luis Enrique, but also Luis Campos
But in another interview given to L'Equipe on Tuesday, Al-Khelaïfi also publicly supported his Portuguese sports advisor: “I have absolute confidence in the project, the coach, the sports advisor and our team, and we will continue to evolve. And when times are tough, we support each other, that's what a good club does, that's what our supporters do too, who are incredible. »
A way of saying that despite the disappointing results in the Champions League this season and the rumors of disgruntled players against their coach, the time was for solidarity and trust, and not for score-settling. The future of Luis Campos at PSG, however, remains uncertain since he has still not extended his contract with the club, which expires in June, unlike Luis Enrique, of whom only the formalization is missing.
Enrique/Campos, a less fluid relationship than in the past
Tuesday, in an article dedicated to Luis Enrique, L'Equipe wrote that the relationship between the Spanish coach and Luis Campos was no longer as ” fluid “ than in the past and implied that this could be linked to differences over the transfer window. The daily added that if the extension of Luis Enrique until 2027 was still not official, Luis Campos “wasn’t there for nothing”. The Portuguese, however, took care to deny “firmly” to the newspaper any tension with Luis Enrique.
Last November 1, before PSG/Lens, Luis Enrique was questioned at a press conference about the future of his sporting director and his message was quite clear: “I have daily contact with Luis. If we don't see each other physically, we call each other. I started this project with Luis Campos. It was with him that I did my interview when I arrived. We don't know what will happen in the future, but very clearly I would like this future to be written with Luis Campos and his entire team and I have no doubt about that. »
