Eric Roy announced this Friday the new long-term injury of Pierre Lees-Melou. Victim of a stress fracture on his leg, already injured at the start of the season, the 31-year-old midfielder is not expected to play again for the year.
Fate befalls Pierre Lees-Melou and Brest. After an absence of several months at the start of the season, the Brest midfielder is back in the infirmary. Out injured against Monaco and forfeited during the defeat against Barcelona (3-0), the master playmaker of the Breton team is not expected to play again in 2024. In front of the press this Friday, Eric Roy confirmed the new long absence of the 31 year old player.
“Pierre Lees-Melou suffers from a stress fracture the size of a hair,” said the technician on the eve of the reception of Strasbourg in L1. “We launched a four-week recovery protocol before a possible resumption.”
A relapse on his right leg?
Bad news for Pierre Lees-Melou as for his club, which is only three points ahead of the red zone before the 13th day of the championship. Injured at the end of last season, the midfielder missed several months of competition before resuming at the beginning of October. After taking a blow against Monaco on the right leg, right where he had a plate placed, the Brest playmaker saw his return to grace thwarted by this new injury.
“We went on a four-week protocol to see if it resolves or not,” Eric Roy told the press as quoted by the newspaper Ouest-France. “If this is not the case we will consider something else.”
Only eight appearances this season
Between his two injuries, Pierre Lees-Melou was able to play eight matches in all competitions with Brest but did not completely succeed in turning around the team's situation. With or without their experienced midfielder, Eric Roy's Brestois will try to end a sad series of four consecutive defeats.
While waiting for a possible return at the start of 2025, Pierre Lees-Melou will miss the reception in Strasbourg, a shock in Lille then the derby against Nantes or even the duel in the Champions League against PSV. So many posters where his technical mastery would have done a lot of good.
