This Sunday, November 29 at 8:45 p.m., OM will conclude the 13th day of Ligue 1 with the reception of AS Monaco. A shock that absolutely must not be lost but above all won.
After a difficult victory in Lens (3-1), OM will host AS Monaco this weekend at the Orange Vélodrome. The Marseillais are coming out of a commando training course of less than a week. They were in Mallemort, a town in Bouches-du-Rhône located an hour's drive from Marseille. The objective for Roberto De Zerbi was for the latest recruits who arrived late this summer to know each other better.
A sort of big green move to better prepare for this OM – AS Monaco which could well be decisive. The clash has several issues and could well shape the rest of the operations for Leonardo Balerdi's teammates. Play for the top 4, or perhaps continue to hope for a little more… Here's why OM absolutely must win against Monaco.
OM must finally win at the Vélodrome
September 14 is the date of OM's last victory at the Orange Vélodrome… This season, Roberto De Zerbi's men are on a 1/5 run at home and they absolutely must change the situation against Monaco. The last defeat against Auxerre (3-1) left its mark on OM supporters.
They who had already suffered a big slap in the Classico against PSG (3-0) for a few days. Facing 2nd in Ligue 1, it will inevitably be more difficult but Marseille cannot afford to disappoint their supporters again. Especially since the stadium will still be sold out despite the terrible series.
Win to go 2nd
With a similar goal difference but 3 points difference, a victory for OM this weekend would allow Roberto De Zerbi's gang to take 2nd place in Monaco. Victory would restart everything while a defeat would give a huge advantage to Eliesse Ben Seghir's teammates.
Stay in touch with PSG
With 9 points difference, PSG is one step ahead of OM. However, the capital club will have a series of big meetings in the days to come. Poorly ranked in the Champions League, Paris could lose weight in Ligue 1… OM must therefore take the maximum number of points while PSG has a meeting with Nantes (30/11), Auxerre (6/12), 'OL (15/12) then Monaco (18/12).
2 big shocks to come
A victory against Monaco would allow the Marseillais to get through the Christmas period at best. The following weekend, OM will take to the pitch at Saint-Étienne (8/12). Then, OM will host LOSC (14/12), which is having a great run in the Champions League and which remains in contact with Marseille by being 4th. The watchword is simple for OM, WIN.
