The main broadcaster of Ligue 1, DAZN, continues to make headlines with regular price cuts. This will still be the case during Black Friday. Is this good news?
Initially, DAZN offered its service for 39.99 euros per month without commitment or at 29.99 euros with a one-year commitment. Then its price decreased. In fact, for several weeks, it has been available at 19.99 euros per month. A promotion extended until the end of 2024.
Black Friday to save Ligue 1?
On the occasion of Black Friday, DAZN took a step forward by announcing a new offer. A monthly subscription for only 14.99 euros, valid only from November 29 to midnight December 2. This reduction nevertheless requires a one-year commitment. The offer becomes attractive for Ligue 1 fans wishing to follow the French championship at “lower cost”.
Despite these price reductions, DAZN has faced criticism since its launch. Particularly because of prices considered excessive which favored the use of illegal broadcasts.
In stadiums, supporters regularly express their discontent. Through hostile chants, banners and even the throwing of tennis balls which interrupted matches.
With this new Black Friday offer, DAZN hopes to attract more subscribers while easing tensions around its pricing model.
But then what to think of the commitment to Ligue 1? DAZN still seems far from having reached the objectives set in terms of subscribers.
Let's remember that they need to reach 1.5 million subscribers. If this is not the case by December 1, 2025, DAZN can terminate the contract and leave. They would not be obliged to go through to the end, scheduled for 2029. A shortfall for Ligue 1 which would once again find itself in a complicated situation.
