Disappointed and frustrated by his debut at PSG, Désiré Doué could ask himself questions about his future in the capital at the end of the season. Present at a press conference this Thursday, the versatile 20-year-old midfielder received a clear message from his coach Luis Enrique.
Mercato: Désiré Doué is already dragging his spleen at PSG
Recruited during the last summer transfer window for a check for 50 million euros from Stade Rennais, Désiré Doué is not happy with his debut in the Paris Saint-Germain jersey. According to the daily L'Équipe, the French international hopeful does not appreciate his use by Luis Enrique, who makes him play in different positions without really imposing himself.
Recently confined to the position of substitute, the younger Guela Doué has not had a start with PSG since October 19 and the victory against RC Strasbourg (4-2), that is to say for five matches. If supporters and certain observers may be concerned about the performance of the French prodigy, who is still waiting for his first goal with Paris and has only delivered one assist in Ligue 1 this season, his coach prefers to tone it down.
Luis Enrique takes stock of Désiré Doué's adaptation
The versatility of Désiré Doué, often praised, could well be double-edged in the Parisian context. Indeed, being asked for multiple positions can disrupt the construction of a well-defined gaming identity. In addition, the fierce competition within the PSG squad does not facilitate the emergence of young talents.
If Luis Enrique is patient, the supporters are starting to get impatient, especially since the capital club's results are not always there, particularly in the Champions League. However, the Parisian coach is not worried about his young protégé and was keen to provide him with his support during this period of doubt.
“Gifted, you only have to think of one thing: he is 19 years old. He has already played in Rennes for a year in spectacular fashion. And with us, he has been helping from the start in several positions. It is possible that his ideal position is not as an offensive player, but in the midfield,” admitted Luis Enrique, who wants to give himself time to develop the versatility of the native of Angers.
“However, I am trying to awaken in him the desire to understand how to play in several positions in order to take advantage of his versatility. Because in Rennes, I saw him play in 6, as a winger and even as a full-back in the Olympic team. I believe it is very positive for a young player to have physical and technical abilities, but also to have tactical knowledge in several positions. It’s a very interesting investment for him,” assured the Spanish technician.
And to reassure his player, Luis Enrique wanted to reaffirm his confidence in him for the future. “It is true that we would like things to happen more quickly so that he can establish himself as a very important player, but it is a process, a path. I repeat, he is 19 years old and is at PSG, he plays a lot of minutes and it is obvious that he would like to play more, but he is a very interesting player, for the present and the future,” added the successor to Christophe Galtier.
