Arriving in Lens in 2021 from the AS Dakar Sacré-Cœur Academy, Mamadou Camara is starting his last year of contract with RC Lens.
“Koto”, Camara went through loans to Bastia, then to Nancy last season. Despite these experiences, he has not yet managed to find a place in the club's professional squad. This season, the 22-year-old Senegalese is playing again with the Artesian reserve. Centerpiece of the team led by Vincent Carlier, he displays exemplary consistency with 8 starts in as many matches. Camara continues to hold on to reach the next level.
“I try to give my best every time I train or play matches, he explains at l’Avenir de l’Artois. As we know, football moves very quickly. I am with the reserves even if in the back of my mind, I think of one day playing with the pros. Afterwards, I don't know. If I'm called, I'll be ready. If I'm not called up as well, I'm going to continue training, giving my all, trying to bring something to the team and I hope we'll do everything to move up with the reserves.
In progress
With the B, the midfielder brings projection in particular. “Yes, it’s one of my qualities, but the first is to be technically comfortable with the ball. Whenever possible, I can project myself forward. Playing matches allows you to progress physically. I've been with RC Lens for four years. I have also been loaned to clubs that play in higher divisions (Editor's note: Loan to SC Bastia from July 2022 to January 2023 and to AS Nancy during the 2023-2024 season). It also allowed me to gain a lot of playing volume and more experience.” Koto Camara will see his contract end next June.
