Loaned to Reims where he has not yet played a single minute despite having returned to the group for a month, Gabriel Moscardo should be used soon according to the club's coach.
Recruited almost a year ago for €20M but victim of numerous physical problems, Gabriel Moscardo has still not played in Ligue 1. Seeing the horizon blocked for him at PSG, Luis Enrique advised him a loan and it was at the Stade de Reims that he landed. After a start to the season spoiled by an injury, he is now fully integrated into the group but has just spent the last three matches entirely on the bench while Reims has had a series of poor performances.
Logically, the local press asked coach Lukas Elsner “what is Moscardo’s status today. He has not yet had any playing time. Bamba returned to Toulouse for example. What about Moscardo's status? » The coach's response was as complete as it was honest: “Bamba is a totally different profile. Moscardo is a more defensive profile and as we were behind, it made more sense to bring in Bamba. Generally speaking, Moscardo is right in line with the players of the profile of Valentin Atangana and Amadou Koné. He is in this competition. »
“Moscardo makes a lot of effort to get there so for us it’s a resource”
Moscardo would therefore not play for a question of profile and the scenario of the matches is indeed that described by Elsner. But Moscardo must also overcome other pitfalls: “He was penalized by his injury very early on without having really done any preparation. It also has an adaptation side to Ligue 1 and the intensity of the duels and the space that is available. He knows it, we talk about it often, so we try to make progress on that. He's working hard to get there so for us it's a resource, even if he hasn't appeared yet. Today, it represents a resource for the club. »
Reims intends to use Moscardo at one point
Recently, the sports press leaked that PSG was unhappy with his playing time and would consider breaking his loan, to which Elsner responded: “We discuss, we exchanged after the meeting and also before. I'm not in contract management. What I know is that we need all our resources and that as long as we are in a position to help us, we will not deprive ourselves of them, on the contrary. For me the key is that we can communicate properly and that we move forward together. That we can help him develop his abilities and his adaptation to Ligue 1 and this particular championship and that he can help us in return with his performances. But the time will come and I'm pretty confident about that. »
This Sunday, while Reims remains on three consecutive defeats and goes to Le Havre, Moscardo is however once again announced on the sidelines…
