Monaco overthrows – Ligue 1 – J11 – -Monaco (1-3)

1-3 Monaco

Goals: Guéla Doué (29e) for the RCSA // Ben Seghir (79eSP and 89e) et Ilenikhena (90e+1) pour l’ASM

Traveling to Meinau, AS Monaco had to wait for the second act to get into Champions League mode and overthrow Strasbourg (3-1). Victory regained in Ligue 1, after two consecutive defeats.

Despite a partial strike encouraged by their ultras, the people of Strasbourg did not let themselves get drunk at the start. After suffering a face-to-face from Breel Embolo, stopped by Đorđe Petrović (18e), the RCSA actually took the lead thanks to Guéla Doué's sense of purpose. Diego Moreira's cross to the far post allowed the full-back to gain the upper hand over Eliesse Ben Seghir's lax defense, before trapping Radosław Majecki with a shot from a tight angle (1-0, 29e). Lacking confidence, Embolo especially lacked power on a volley from the penalty spot (40e), as did Dilane Bakwa on the other side, whose duel with Majecki ended with a shot off target.

The return from the locker room was first marked by the injury of the referee, Mr. Bastien Dechepy, then by a clear Monegasque domination. Domination achieved in the last ten minutes. Blocked by the hand of Diego Moreira, Ben Seghir's volley offered ASM a penalty, transformed by the young Moroccan (1-1, 79e)soon to be the author of a double (1-2, 89e) on a counter blitz led by Vanderson, Maghnes Akliouche and George Ilenikhena. The latter, precisely, sealed the score on the Strasbourg throw-in, taking advantage of Seydou Sow's slip to deceive Petrović in a duel (1-3, 90e+1). Here is Monaco again, three points behind the leader, PSG.
