Looking for a new defensive element, AS Saint-Etienne would have checked the name of Lazaros Rota, right back of AEK Athens. There is, however, a “but”.
The 2024-2025 season for AS Saint-Etienne is trying. While everything was in place for the supporters to experience better moments than during the two previous years, the situation is increasingly dangerous. Olivier Dall'Oglio struggled to find the formula during the first days of Ligue 1. Currently 16th in the French championship, all is not lost however. The Greens are only 4 points apart from Lens, 7th, who nevertheless have the same number of victories (3). To avoid a fiasco and an immediate return to Ligue 2, management should be active during the winter transfer window.
Injuries have not spared AS Saint-Etienne this season. While several million euros were invested last summer to strengthen the squad, the work was not enough to perfect the Saint-Etienne defense. As a result, with the injury to Pierre Cornud, Olivier Dall'Oglio no longer had a professional left back. The top priority is therefore the recruitment of a player for this position. However, Hellas Football tells us on X that it is at the right-back position that Saint-Etienne could recruit. Indeed, the account reveals that Lazaros Rota, right back of AEK Athens, is a target for a future transfer.
A targeted right-back, casting error?
The latter, which therefore does not evolve in the left corridor, could however strengthen an equally depopulated sector on the right. With Yvann Maçon's meniscus injury, only Dennis Appiah can occupy this position in the long term. Valued at 2 million euros by the specialized site Transfermarkt, the Greek will not leave for less than 3 million euros. A problem for ASSE or a small obstacle to overcome? The Greek international would, however, do a lot of good for the Greens, who would really need such a versatile and offensive full-back.
