ASSE has 10 points in 10 matches. Ten points collected not without difficulty in a championship where the Greens must be at 150% to perform. Aware of the youth of the squad but also of the need to strengthen during the winter transfer window, the Saint-Etienne leaders are looking to fill the gaps. An idea from the Saint-Etienne board has just surfaced.
ASSE risks experiencing quite a facelift for the 2025-2026 season. A renewal which comes as a result of the numerous players who are at the end of their contract next June (Appiah, Maçon, Wadji, Mouton, Petrot, Monconduit, Briançon, Cafaro). One of the priorities of the upcoming transfer window will be the right-back position. The two players expected to play this role are 7 months from the end of their Saint-Etienne adventure.
ASSE tracks a right side
According to Le republicain sportif: “AS Saint-Étienne is reportedly closely monitoring Greek player Lazaros Rota. He is currently playing for AEK Athens and plays the right-back position.
The player could represent a strategic investment for the French club. Rota is recognized for his marking qualities, his defensive solidity as well as his agility and precision during transitions of play. These skills could strengthen the defense of AS Saint-Étienne.
Other European clubs are also said to be interested in Lazaros Rota's services. AS Saint-Étienne's interest in this player underlines their desire to strengthen their squad with solid defensive profiles. This could be a response to the club's recent performances.”
Who is your Lazaros Rota?
Lazaros Rota is a Greek football defender, born August 23, 1997 in Kateríni, Greece. Playing as a right-back, he currently has 19 caps with the Greek national team. Under contract with AEK Athens until June 2026, he is estimated at 2 million euros according to Transfermarkt. After 18 months in the Dutch first division, he joined the Greek championship in September 2021. With his club, he participated in European competitions, notably in the Europa League last season, where AEK Athens shared its group with Olympic from Marseille.
A track which is similar to recruitments carried out during the summer period.
