Holder of a Master's degree in international law, I realized at the end of my university career that it was important to evolve in a field that you appreciate. Overnight, I decided to put an end to my parents' dream, who saw in me a future lawyer, to make a living from my passion: sport. Since then, I have covered transfer windows and sports news, trying to keep readers informed as best as possible.
In 2019, Leonardo returned to PSG to take on the role of sporting director. A role he had already occupied between 2011 and 2013, at the start of the QSI project. During the interview with the Brazilian in Le Figaro, Jérôme Rothen spoke about his visits to the capital, in particular his return, which would have been impossible without an XXL investment from Qatar.
Leonardo has had three lives at PSG. First a player between 1996 and 1997, the Brazilian made his comeback just after the takeover of the club by Qatar Sports Investments. After a stint at Milan, he agreed to take on the role of sporting director, until his dismissal in 2013, after a suspension for pushing a referee.
Qatar repatriated Leonardo
Six years later, Leonardo agreed to resume his role as sports director. During his mandate, he had to manage the thorny issue of the extension of Kylian Mbappé. At the microphone of RMC, Jérôme Rothen spoke about the reasons for his return in 2019.
“He came back, but not for the right reasons”
According to the former PSG player, Leonardo had received an offer that he could not refuse. “He came back, but not for the right reasons. Already because financially, the Qataris' offer was incredible. You have to say what is,” Rothen revealed this Tuesday evening.
