Sports director of PSG between 2011 and 2013, then between 2019 and 2022, Leonardo gave way to Luis Campos at the head of Parisian recruitment. Questioned by Le Figaro this Monday, the Brazilian leader spoke of the new Paris FC project, which will be bought by the wealthy Arnault family very soon.
He was one of the major figures of the PSG after the takeover of the club by the Qatar. With the arrival of the QSI investment fund in Paris in 2011, the president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi quickly surrounded himself with a strong man in order to successfully complete the Paris transfer window. Former player of PSG from 1996 to 1997, Leonardo thus arrived at the position of sports director.

Having left two years later in 2013, the Brazilian leader will return in 2019, until a new departure three years later in 2022. Leonardo will have marked the history of PSGwhich took a new turn in the summer of 2023, by deciding to part ways with most of its stars, and wishing to build a brand new project focused on the collective and youth. Questioned by the Figaro this Monday, Leonardo mentioned the project of the other club in the capital, the Paris FC. As a reminder, the 13th arrondissement club will enter a new dimension with its takeover by the family Arnault and by the group Red Bull. The Brazilian, however, claimed that he had not been contacted: “(He bursts out laughing.) No, no. But if I had been contacted, I wouldn't tell you, you know that? But I have not been contacted ».

Leonardo above all stated that he no longer wished to occupy the role of sports director: “I told you, I want to change my position in football, as sports director it’s over. Football people know it. It's not just the question of a project, it also depends on my story, my feelings, it's always like that. I was coach of Inter Milan and thanks to my history with Paris, I received the call to become sports director of PSG. There is no logic. My future will always be linked to the feelings I can feel in football”.
