Recruited by PSG in the summer of 1998 from Guingamp, Nicolas Laspalles never managed to confirm in the capital where his adventure quickly turned into a flop. The former right-back, who then had the heyday of FC Nantes, seems to bitterly regret this experience in the ranks of PSG.
His name probably won't resonate with the younger fans of the PSGmore Nicolas Laspalles arrived at the Parc des Princes in the summer of 1998, just after the victorious World CupFrench team. From the training center ofOF Guingamp where he had also established himself as a professional before arriving at PSG, the right back had solid ambitions when arriving in the capital. But Laspalles never really managed to establish himself, and he was loaned to RC Lens only a few months after his arrival before being definitively transferred to FC Nantess and 2000.
“I wasn’t ready to go to PSG”
Questioned in the columns of THE TEAM, Laspalles also displays great regrets over this transfer to PSG just after Guingamp : « I think I wasn't ready to go to PSG. I should have had an intermediate step. You go from Guingamp, 8,000 inhabitants, to the capital… I had this stage in Lens and it went better when I returned to Paris », indicates the former right-back, who also had other options on the market in addition to the PSG in the summer of 1998.
Lazio Rome, Tottenham… Laspalles refused heavy
« Before going to Paris, there had already been Nantes, but also Lyon and Lazio Rome. The year before, it was Tottenham, but I said no because I wasn't ready. I could have signed for Lens too, when I was on loan there », continues Nicolas Laspalleswhose career could have had a very different trajectory if he had not signed with PSGwith notably large foreign teams following in its footsteps. Please note, however, his fairly extensive track record: Winner of the Intertoto Cup in 1996 with GuingampFrench champion and winner of the Champions Trophy in 2001 with the FC Nantesor even winner of the League Cup in 1999 with the RC Lens.
