The clash between OL and OM on September 22 put the subject of arbitration back at the center of debates in Ligue 1, for a few days. Particularly because of the harsh comments from Medhi Benatia who did not hesitate to target Benoit Bastien, the referee of the match, whether at the break or at the end of the match on DAZN. “Watch the episodes. I’m not inventing anything. I look at the images like everyone else,” said Benatia, clearly pointing out, according to him, anti-OM treatment.
Benatia’s words hurt the refereeing
Words that Amaury Delerue, manager-instructor of elite referees with the technical direction of refereeing, does not digest. Questioned by RMC Sport on the subject, Delerue points out a doubtful exit. “From a general point of view, these outings do a lot of harm to the men behind the referees, from the moment we attack the probity and honesty of the men. You do damage but you also do it in amateur football,” believes Delerue, who considers that an outing like that of Benatia leads to “far too many acts of violence”. Delerue who is open to all possible discussions on refereeing and decisions, but not to attackers against “the men and women behind the whistles”.
