beIN Sports does not pay, the deal with the LFP threatened

beIN Sports has still not settled the first deadline of the deal concluded with the LFP regarding TV rights for Ligue 1. OL, which is growing impatient, has decided to attack the League.

On August 30, beIN Sports should have paid 24% of the amount provided for his Ligue 1 broadcaster contract. This represents a total annual budget of 80 million euros for TV rights (for one championship match per day), plus 20 million euros in sponsorship. To this day, however,
not a cent has yet arrived in the coffers
of the Professional Football League (LFP).

Officially, the Qatari group demands clarification on the marketing of quasi-direct by DAZN, which for its part won eight matches out of nine by lifting L1 against 400 million euros per year. But this coup by beIN is obviously not to the taste of the League and the clubs suspended from paying these TV rights.

An obsolete deal according to OL

Particularly impatient in view of its bloodless finances, OL decided to throw a wrench in the pond by sending the LFP a formal notice, RMC reported this Thursday. In a letter addressed to the president of the League Vincent Labrune, the Rhone club demands payment of the sums due. “ We ask you to immediately take all necessary steps to recover the sums owed by beIN Sports », thunders general manager Laurent Prud’homme.

Beyond this formal notice, OL contests the marketing deal between beIN Sports, via Qatar Tourism, and the LFP, “ considering the partnership agreed in violation of our rights as null and void “. The Gones thus denounce “ the incompetence of the LFP to decide on the marketing of marketing inventories relating to club properties “. But also “ non-compliance with the prerogatives of the Board of Directors, non-compliance with distribution rules and violation of non-competition rules. »
