Patrick Olivethe Saumur coach, answered our questions before this weekend’s match against the Girondins de Bordeaux. We first asked him about the Coupe de France which took place for the N2 clubs last weekend. Saumur faced Cheffaits Antigny Saint-Maurice (0-6 victory on Saturday, against an R3). What did this meeting bring to his team?
« The Coupe de France is an event that has a great history with our club so it was important to start well, to be in the spirit, to respect the opponent as always. We really played a very serious match, we played to score goals, we were rigorous. It was a good work session against an opponent who could have come back at one point, two to one, who hit the post. Apart from this episode, we managed the match quite well. We had the draw on Wednesday and so we are moving again to a Regional, in Sarthe. »
Then he reacted to the current situation of the Girondins de Bordeaux, who took a reserve by FC Seudre Océan:
« Depending on the region… I believe there was the same case in another region and I believe they left the result. Unfortunately you also discover the amateur world. The Coupe de France is one thing, but there are a lot of different regulations depending on the Leagues and you have to be hyper attentive to all that. But it’s true that in the Coupe de France, I had read these regulations because the case happened to me on the second day in Brittany, in Locminé. We had made all our changes and our striker was injured two minutes from the end. So I ask the delegate the question to know if the goalkeeper can return as a player. Except that you actually need a player jersey. We do not have the right to bring him back, to take another jersey, even if he was identified. So the trick is to have a number 16 player and a number 16 goalkeeper to be able to compensate for that. Knowing that in the Coupe de France it is a different regulation and I believe that it is prohibited for the time being. The number 16 must be worn with the goalkeeper and goalkeeper jersey. It seems to me that’s it. That’s why at the time I think you are at fault, after that it doesn’t mean that you will be eliminated. But there is indeed an error. »
