Jérôme Rothen: “Frankly, the club died a few weeks ago”

On RMC, the former Monaco and winger, now a consultant, Jerome Rothencommented on the authorization to continue activities for the Girondins de until January 2025.

“I don’t even know if it’s good news… Honestly, the club died a few weeks ago. They’re in National 2, I wish them good luck in trying to rebuild a team and have a normal season to aim for promotion. It’s never easy, even when you’re called the Girondins de Bordeaux, to finish first in the group, because only the first one goes up to the National. And in amateur football, it’s something completely different… It’s mind-blowing to talk like that about the Girondins de Bordeaux. What’s happening to them is dramatic. So for me, there’s no good news, and even less so when you realize and hear that Gérard Lopez is hanging on to I don’t know what… Because the club is in this situation because of him. So he’s the only one responsible for what happened. You killed a club… You almost killed , you killed a club like Bordeaux… The least you could do is leave, and we don’t want to see you in football anymore. It seems logical to me that the future must be without him. When he also dares to say that people have changed their minds… It’s mind-blowing.”
