Before the Milan-Venezia match last night, AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni spoke to the club’s official channels to clarify the many rumors circulating about the stadium. The Evening CourierMilano edition, highlights how the Rossoneri executive first closed the door definitively on the WeBuild project: “The result would never be at the level that Milanese clubs deserve.”
He then clarified that between San Donato and the old project of a new San Siro, the focus of the club at the moment is on the former: “Our number one priority remains San Donato.”
“We are clear that San Donato is progressing, and at the moment, it’s the option we prefer.”
These statements are very clear, but it remains to be seen whether they will be followed by corresponding actions: too many contradictions and reversals have occurred in this long saga.
It should be noted that Scaroni has not entirely ruled out the original San Siro project. The Courier points out that such a project could benefit Milan and Inter, who have a vested interest in building in an already serviced area with infrastructure and transport.
The mayor would also benefit as this would keep the clubs in the city. Meanwhile, the mayor has directly clashed with his City Council, which has recently reacted harshly against a possible return to the old San Siro plan, especially from the majority and environmentalists. Sala stated: “Sterile polemics because the process has passed through the City Council: I invite everyone not to pretend to forget what the politics have already examined. I will enforce what the City Council has decided following the public debate.”
Committees and environmental groups, however, have already scheduled the first protest meeting for September 27, as relayed via Milan News.
