Heart for The Hague wants more fountains and water features in the city

Hart voor Den Haag has written the initiative proposal ‘More Hague Fountains’, which advocates the annual realization of at least one new fountain in The Hague. The proposal also calls for the preservation and improvement of existing fountains, which are often outdated or not functioning properly.

“Fountains are not only beautiful to look at, but also give a boost to the living environment and the residential climate in the city. Fountains can also give an extra boost to tourism and are a solution to summer heat problems in the city,” says group leader Richard de Mos and faction representative Damiën Zeller. They see opportunities for new fountains at Kamperfoelieplein, Radio Hollandplein and Koningsplein, among others. “Of course, always in consultation with residents and entrepreneurs.”

The Hague currently has about 30 fountains, but many of them do not have the appeal they should have, according to Hart voor Den Haag. “With this proposal we not only want to realize new fountains, but also to better maintain and utilize the current ones. For example, the fountain on Vaillantplein has entailed considerable costs, but has not functioned for several years. In addition, this fountain is highly regarded by residents. considered unattractive and attracts few visitors. The fountain is also seriously polluted. It is, to put it mildly, not a calling card for the Schilderswijk.”

The fountain plan also includes an ambitious proposal for a large-scale fountain show in the Hofvijver, inspired by world-famous fountain shows such as the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas and the Dubai Fountain in Dubai. “The Hofvijver, with its historical value and central location, is the ideal location for a daily fountain show that will attract both our Hague residents and tourists. With music from The Hague legends such as the Golden Earring and Anouk, the show can not only stimulate tourism, but also strengthen city pride.”
