In the third game of the 2024 season for the New York Jets, on a beautiful warm late summer evening in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Jets dominated the New England Patriots, 24 – 3.
After a first half completely dominated by the Jets, the Jets went into the locker room leading the Patriots by 11 at 14 – 3.
The Jets opened the third quarter on defense. They picked up right where they left off, forcing a quick Patriots punt. Then Aarron Rodgers and the Jets offense took over, and again marched right down the field on a long drive ending in a Garrett Wilson touchdown and a 21 – 3 Jets lead.
The fourth quarter started with the score still Jets 21, Patriots 3. Unfortunately right tackle Morgan Moses went down with what looked like a knee injury.
The Jets tackled on a field goal with a little more than 10 minutes to go and the game was effectively over. The rest was extended garbage time. The game ended, fittingly, with a Jets sack, their seventh of the game.
Jets fans, enjoy. For one night this was exactly what the team envisioned when they were putting together the roster in the offseason. Aaron Rodgers was vintage Rodgers. The defense was dominant. The pass rush got home. The running game was clicking. The passing game was pristine. Yes, the Patriots aren’t a quality opponent. But this is what good teams do to lessen opponents. The Jets dominated at home, exorcised a few demons, and it was FUN.
With the victory the Jets record improves to 2-1 on the season. Next week the Jets look to improve their record to 3-1 as they take on the Denver Broncos at home in East Rutherford.
