Ivory Coast and Senegal started their CAN 2025 qualifying campaign with a victory on Friday in front of their home crowd. Find the full results of the day.

The favorites were there this Friday evening on the occasion of the first day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. Starting with the reigning African champions. Dominant in front of their Bouaké crowd, the Elephants of Ivory Coast had to wait until the second half for take the lead over Zambia (2-0)thanks to a double from returning Jean-Philippe Krasso. Automatically qualified as the host country for this thirty-fifth edition, Morocco dominated Gabon (4-1)in Agadir. The game was played in the first half with penalties, two per team: Hakim Ziyech did not miss either of his two attempts, unlike Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who came up against Yassine Bounou on the first of them. The Atlas Lions then rolled out, just like Egypt against Cape Verde (3-0). Finally, the Senegal was able to count once again on Sadio Mané, author of his forty-fourth goal for the national team, to dispose of Burkina Faso (1-0).

No revenge for Guinea

In the late afternoon, South Africa narrowly escaped defeat by Uganda (2-2)in front of their Johannesburg home crowd. Semi-finalists in the last CAN, Bafana Bafana only equalized at the end of added time in this clash between Belgian coaches (Hugo Broos vs. Paul Put). Another semi-finalist from the previous edition playing in front of their supporters, RD Congo on the other hand, started its qualification campaign on the right foot by beating Guinea (1-0)at the Stade des Martyrs, thanks to a lobbed shot from Edo Kayembe, the Watford midfielder (27th). For the Syli National, already beaten by Sébastien Desabre’s men last February, revenge will have to wait. Finally, a frustrating first in Lomé for the Eperviers du Togo and their new coach, Daré Nibombé, joined in added time by Liberia (1-1).
