In great financial difficulty, Salford was forced to sell players to survive. And the Super League intends to make it easier for buyers.
In Salford, the red of the jersey also rubbed off on the bank accounts. In serious financial difficulty, the Red Devils received an advance of £500,000 in order to be able to start the year peacefully. But that wasn’t enough. Forced to cut their operating costs by around £700,000, the Red Devils have no choice but to part ways with some players. According to Examiner Live’s Matthew Shaw, Super League executives have contacted all other clubs to make offers to buy out Salford players’ contracts.
In order to make their task easier, the Super League has opened the door to Salary Cap and quota exemptions for clubs which will welcome players from Salford. The Super League could also itself validate transfer offers that it deems satisfactory. And this proposal did not fall on deaf ears
Hull FC is heading towards Marc Sneyd!
Also according to The Examiner Live, Hull FC have made a “substantial” financial offer to buy Marc Sneyd. Having played with the Airlie Birds between 2015 and 2021, Marc Sneyd knows the club very well. And he could even quickly make his place there, thanks to the departure of Jordan Abdull. However, we will have to face competition from Leigh and Hull KR, who are also interested in the services of the England international half. And as well as Sneyd, Hull FC have also sounded out winger Deon Cross.
The cash flow generated by these transfers would be welcome for Salford. Despite the sales of several players over the last two years (Brodie Croft, Andy Ackers, Tyler Dupree, etc.) and the financial advance mentioned above, the club’s financial situation remains critical. Without funding coupled with a reduction in its operating costs, the club could simply disappear in the weeks to come.
