the essential
Training players is the DNA of Auscitain rugby, with the success that the French oval world knows. With Siegfried Vandekerkof and Léo Debets at the helm, RC Auch is digging this vein.
There is no need to remind those who talk or circle around the oval ball of the number of players trained on the Bourrec, hippodrome or Rive Droite fields. Today, RC Auch continues the tradition. Siegfried Vandekerkof and Léo Debets are in charge with all the coaches, educators of the youth categories of this succession.
The RCA winger explains to us how it works at the certified training center (23 players), at the Crabos (20 players) and Cadets (20 players) academies, just outside the rugby school (240 licensees) . Interview.

La Dépêche du Midi: Siegfried Vandekerkof, what is your role within the Auscitain team?
I am the director of training and my job is to train the young Auscitains, up to the point of setting foot on the Jacques-Fouroux pitch with the One team. This is my primary objective. We must train them on a sporting level but also academically, because there is a double project to carry out.
That is to say that you supervise all the educators, coaches of the Crabos youth categories up to the U14s?
Yes, we work as a duo with Léo Debets with the U14s. We are constantly collaborating. We are working on a guideline from Minimes to Alamercery Cadets and Junior Crabos to Espoirs. This is to create continuity in training and so that coaches have the same approach to training these young players in the same direction.

Is this course of action in line with the game played by the first team?
Exactly, it is in relation to the game played by the flag team, also in relation to the profile of the players that we wish to have at the RCA, that is to say hard-working, hard-working players. There is also a standard profile for each position and this is also what we want to train. This is to write a coherent succession plan to nurture the first team in the future, year after year.
You were talking about the academic aspect. Is there monitoring or academic support for young people at the RCA?
Yes, we have academic support. Young people have the opportunity to come to the club to obtain this help with volunteer teachers at the club on different subjects including the main ones. Caroline Delcaux, also, participates in this support with her role as school manager at the Certified Training Center (CEL). We have partnerships with the Beaulieu high school and contacts with the IUT Paul-Sabatier in Auch.

The CEL is supervised by the Federation, how does this work?
We are certified every four years, but every year the FFR comes to find out if we are following the specifications. Moreover, the FFR came this past Wednesday for this labeling follow-up. She conducted interviews with players to find out what sports and academic education was provided.
How are the end of the season and the future of the young teams at RCA shaping up?
The season promises to be tough because in Alamercery and Crabos we are going to be put into “play down”. We are going to have big matches to play and there is something interesting to look for in these group stages. This will represent a lot of work for the coaches and players. Everyone is invested and hardworking so I know that it will pass and that there will be great victories.
