Carmaux. He wants to honor resistant players

Carmaux. He wants to honor resistant rugby players

Alain Vargas, emblematic figure of Tarn and the Carmausin oval, who was licensed at USC rugby, former player, coach, referee, manager and currently federal representative during matches, plans to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany.

May 8, 2025 will mark this anniversary. In Carmaux, several rugby players from the years 1940-1945 participated in the Resistance against the German occupiers.

Looking for lesser-known players

Alain Vargas' intention is to pay tribute to these former Carmausin players who actively participated in the Resistance. Some are very well known: the deputy for Tarn Augustin Malroux, the mayor of Carmaux Jean Vareilles, the French 1st division champion in 1951 Jean Régis.

Alain Vargas is looking for other lesser-known USC rugby players who distinguished themselves during the Resistance and whom he wants to emerge from anonymity.

“We could create a plaque attached to the exterior wall of Mille Clubs, headquarters of USC rugby, write speeches recalling their contribution, organize a republican meal, set up an organizing committee, make informal contacts with elected officials, veterans' organizations and historians have begun research to find them,” explains Alain Vargas. He is asking anyone who has information on this subject. He is ready to meet them to discuss and exchange ideas.

Contact: Alain Vargas, Tel. 06 86 94 91 33.
