On Thursday, the town indeed obtained the Four Laurels awarded by the National Committee of Active and Sports Cities, under the patronage of the Ministry of Sports and in partnership with the National Sports Agency. This is the label’s highest distinction.

Something to delight Laurent Bonnet, deputy for sport at Toulon town hall: “Since the creation of the Active and Sporty City label (in 2017)we had never yet managed to achieve this distinction, since we had Three Laurels. It’s a real source of pride, because it demonstrates that we have transformed our heritage into a new ambition. And few cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants have the Four Laurels…”

With this new award, the capital of joins the exclusive club of 55 French cities to have obtained such recognition. “Concretely, resumes Laurent Bonnetit is a way of thanking all those who participate in this success: the city services, our associations and all the people of Toulon with their commitment and their free access practice. »

“Maintain ambition”

During the ceremony organized for the occasion, in (Seine-Maritime), the committee particularly valued “transversality implemented in sport in Toulon”. The deputy mayor explains: “There is a way of doing sport and bringing it everywhere, like in schools, to bring a connection to Toulon, which has been highlighted. The Health Bus is also a new action that has been noticed. Clearly, sport on the pitch, but also beyond, is the image we wanted to show. »

And to complete: “This label is not just about having a sports club, not at all. What was celebrated was the appropriation of our urban space through physical activity. »

Now, a new challenge awaits the Toulonnais, namely to keep these Four Laurels for as long as possible. “It’s just a step. We must maintain this ambition”concludes Laurent Bonnet. However, a celebration open to all will be organized soon.
